In Northwestern Greece in the area of Siatista Dio Fili (two friends) was established by Yannis Polyzos and Georgia Goutziamani. Together they teamed up with Yannis Boutaris (of Kir-Yanni Estate fame), in order to re-establish their region as a wine producing area. Vineyards are located on high elevation (900 meters/3000 feet), and the Xinomavro vines are quite old (70-100 years). The climate here, is almost continental; far from the Aegean sea, surrounded by mountains, summers are quite hot, but winters can be brutal with temperatures reaching single digit on the Fahrenheit scale. Snow and late season ice is not uncommon. It’s not surprising, then, that varietals such as Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Noir do well here, as well as the indigenous Xinomavro and Moschomavro. The last two come together for their fantastic Rose wine full of raspberry, strawberry flavors and wonderful structure.
11 Hectares (27 acres). Annual production 70,000 bottles.
