This is one of the most important wineries in Greece, established by Leon Karatsalos and Yiannis Paraskevopoulos, in Nemea (at a high elevation), in 1997. The 1990’s where instrumental in the evolution of winemaking in the country. Gaia was on the forefront of the evolution (more of a revolution), as it introduced a new side of Agiorgitiko; fruity, sure, but also extracted, dark in color, full bodied, tannic, and age worthy. Parcels where carefully selected, and densly planted at high elevation (2,000 feet), and rather steep slopes. Besides the original location in Nemea, Gaia Estate has a significant presence on the island of Santorini, where Assyrtiko is king. The diverse expressions of the grape, produce legendary wines that earn some of the highest accolades and scores by international critics.
