EcoSytem Xinomavro Reserve
In the Northeastern corner of Greece on the plateau of Amyndeo, there is a single block of old vine Xinomavro (prephiloxera and own rootstock) that is about 100 years old. This is the Barba Yannis vineyard that provides exceptionally low yield fruit. The wine was aged for 24 months in French oak. Typical Xinomavro, this is all about structure and power. Yet, it is sophisticated, highly aromatic with well integrated tannins that allow expressive fruit to show in the mid palate. Acidity is ever-present adding definition and nerve. The finish is long and persistent. A wine to put away for a long time, it will benefit in a decanter for 2-3 hours and feel right at home with wild boar sausages, roast leg of lamb, of a festive beef tenderloin. In addition, risotto Milanese with porcini mushrooms topped with truffle oil would be a match made in heaven.
