View full detailsOn the picturesque island of Cephalonia in Western Greece, near the town of Lixouri, Evriviadis Sclavos set up his winery with the mission to create not only a unique operation, but to elevate the local grape varietals (Robola, Vostilidi and Mavrodaphne) to a whole new level, not seen or tasted before. He has embraced organic, and biodynamic viticulture practices since the late 80’s. In addition, his low intervention practices translate to the use of only natural yeasts, no filtration or fining, and recently the addition of concrete tanks. Talking about wines with a sense of place, his are exactly that. Sclavos is meticulous, he has studied the soils and subsoils for decades, understands the relationship between soil and vine; he’s a true “terroirista”. Most of his vineyard in on rocky slopes, thus his famed, highly extracted Robola “Vino di Sasso” or wine of the stone. His ‘Metagitnion” white made by the local Vostilidi, is simply a huge wine, a blockbuster. Needless to say, these are intellectual wines, with a capacity to age. Cult status defines this boutique operation. 8 Hectares ( 20 acres). Annual production 100,000 bottles
