The winery was established in the 1990’s in the area of Ano Gastra in the Naoussa appellation, in the Northwestern Greece.The vineyard, itself, dates back to 1979. Konstantinos Karydas was joined by his son Petros to run this small operation, with the goal of producing exceptional, single vineyard Xinomavro wines. Indeed, the 40 year old vines set on sandy-calcacerous soil, produce amazing berries, while yields are kept very low (green harvest reduces yields by a third). In the winery, Karydas follows traditional methods and ages the wine for 24 months in French oak barrels. The resulting wines are walking that fine line between austere, old fashion style, and the more fruit forward version that is becoming more prevalent throughout Greece. No matter the style, these are exceptional Xinomavro wines that are structured, sophisticated and age worthy. This is truly the definition of a “garagiste” wine operation and well worth seeking out. 2.6 hectares (6.5 acres), 13,000 bottles.
