On the island of Crete, the local white varietal Vidiano is providing some compelling example of really well made wines with an international audience. Case and point, the Douloufakis winery has produce a stunning wine, without any oak treatment, just stainless steel fermentation. Very clear, light yellow in color, the wine opens up with a lovely bouquet of white flowers. Its fruity demeanor may fool you of what it will taste like, but this is bone dry with purpose; an elegant wine to be sure, with pronounced but balanced acidity, it is proof that in one of Europe's warmest vinicultural areas, its possible (if planted properly and in elevation), to produce fine white wines with backbone and class. Drink now, or be adventurous and age this for 3-5 years.Superb with seafood, summer salads, fish, baked or grilled, and white cheeses. ABV13.5% RP90
